Kate Potter - Statement

These Days is a personal investigation into how we relate to our parents as they experience the physical and emotional changes taking place in old age. I wanted the images to suggest a sense of nostalgia with a melancholy acceptance of the present.   I felt that photographing my parents during these elderly years was a way for me to grasp the complexities of their physical mutation, as well as confronting myself with a more intimate experience of mortality and transience.
